Simulation Of Energy-Aware Backbone Networks

چکیده
An optimization of the energy consumption in network systems has been recently an important research issue. The main challenge is to design, develop and test novel technologies, integrated control strategies and mechanisms for network equipment enabling energy saving by adapting network capacities and resources to current traffic loads and user requirements, while ensuring end-toend Quality of Service. In general, the idea is to develop low power devices or nano-processors, concentrate network traffic on a minimal subset of network components, and modulate network devices using dynamic voltage and frequency scaling methods. Various power adapting technologies for network devices are described in literature. We developed a framework for a backbone network management which leads to the minimization of the energy consumption by this network. The concept is based on activity control of the network equipment. The framework is presented in (Niewiadomska-Szynkiewicz et al., 2012b). In this paper we describe the design, performance and potential applications of the software environment for energy efficient backbone network optimization and simulation. This system was used to illustrate the performance of our control framework for energy-aware IP networks.

Energy Efficient Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks by Using Honey Bee Mating Optimization
Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) are composed of mobile stations communicating through wireless links, without any fixed backbone support. In these networks, limited power energy supply, and frequent topology changes caused by node mobility, makes their routing a challenging problem. TORA is one of the routing protocols that successfully copes with the nodes’ mobility side effects, but it do...

متن کاملA JOINT DUTY CYCLE SCHEDULING AND ENERGY AWARE ROUTING APPROACH BASED ON EVOLUTIONARY GAME FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
Network throughput and energy conservation are two conflicting important performance metrics for wireless sensor networks. Since these two objectives are in conflict with each other, it is difficult to achieve them simultaneously. In this paper, a joint duty cycle scheduling and energy aware routing approach is proposed based on evolutionary game theory which is called DREG. Making a trade-off ...
متن کاملRobust energy-aware routing with redundancy elimination
Many studies in literature have shown that energy-aware routing (EAR) can significantly reduce energy consumption for backbone networks. Also, as an arising concern in networking research area, the protocol-independent tra c redundancy elimination (RE) technique helps to reduce (a.k.a compress) tra c load on backbone network. Motivation from a formulation perspective, we first present an extend...
متن کاملLocal Repair for Extending Lifetime of Wireless Sensor Networks
188 Abstract-The lifetime of battery operated wireless sensor networks can be prolonged by energy aware maintenance of the virtual backbone. The energy of a node is depleted quickly during communication and network failure is most likely to occur when the energy of a Minimum Connected Dominating Set (MCDS) node is exhausted. The reconstruction of an alternate backbone without the depleted node ...
